Artist Raed Issa

The artist, Raed Issa, was born in Gaza in 1975.

Lives and works in Gaza, He is a founding member of the Contemporary Art “Eltiqa’” Group in Gaza Strip. He studied art at the Summer Academy – Dar Al Funun, which was supervised by artist Marwan Kassab Bachi from 1999 until 2002.

His artworks simulate the wars on Gaza, the conditions of the Palestinian refugee camps and the prisoners in Israeli prisons, the popular resistance, and important social issues.

In 2014, during the Israeli aggression on Gaza, his studio was completely destroyed, causing the artist to lose nearly 300 paintings he drew during his artistic career. Despite wasting the efforts of many years that the artist lived through, trembling between thoughts and feelings, which increased his determination to continue to deliver the message of his people and to affirm his right to his land.

He participated in the thirteenth Bari Biennale for young artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in Italy. His artworks were shown in many exhibitions in Palestine and abroad, and invitations were sent to him to participate in workshops and artistic residencies in Britain, France, Switzerland, and Jordan.

He has received many awards and art grants, most important of which are:

2011 He obtained an artistic residency in the International City of Arts – Paris, during which he worked on a solo exhibition entitled “Hope” and displayed it in the exhibition hall there.

2007 – 2008 he received a grant and an artistic residency in the studios of the municipality of Geneva, nominated and invited by it, during which he held his solo exhibition entitled (Visions).

2002 Received the first prize in the Young Artist Competition organized by the Abdul Mohsin Al-Qattan Foundation for the “Bereavement” project, which is represented by 99 paintings.
