Artist Abed Abdi

Artist Abed Abdi, born in Haifa in 1942

He holds a master’s degree in mural and graphic art from the Academy of Fine Arts in Germany.

Abed worked teaching art, using various materials in his artworks to express his vision. In his works and murals made of mosaics incorporating fine art, we see bits of Haifa and scenes decorated with the colors of the sea, sky and paper kites that symbolize rejection of oppression and occupation.He highlights the elements of Palestinian resistance and resolution in the occupied territories and hope for a better future through his paintings and sculptures. His works are considered the artistic history that preserves the city of Haifa.

Abed has been active in the Palestinian cultural scene since the 1960s, and has produced a large collection of artwork the last 65 years consisting of hundreds of paintings, cartoons, prints, graphic designs and sculptures.

One of his most prominent works is the memorial monument for Palestinian martyrs (Earth Day 1976). Furthermore,his works are distributed globally.

Abidi won many awards, most notably: –

-German Award for art studies in 1999

-Award from the Minister of Science, Culture and Sports in the field of fine art in 2008
