Hafiz Kassis:
Artist born in Beit Sahour in 1945
He holds a master’s degree in fine arts from the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts / Turkey.
He is a researcher in the field of restoration and preservation of works of art and museums. He worked in the field of restoration for several years. Moreover, the most important churches that he restored include The Monastery of The Savior in Jerusalem, St. Joseph Church in Amman, and the Church of Santa Maria in Cyprus. He also did stained glass work for the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and a mosaic for the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.
Hafez held 7 personal exhibitions in Jordan, Palestine and Turkey and participated in many group exhibitions in Jordan and abroad. He executed many murals and art projects using painting, mosaics and stained glass.
He has collections of his artworks in many museums, including the Jordan National Museum, Qatar National Museum, the Jordanian Royal Palaces, and the Syrian Ministry of Culture.
His most important solo art exhibition in 2021 entitled (Harmony and Violence) in Cairo where he painted the city of Jerusalem in 70 paintings representing his artistic experience throughout the 50 years.
This space enjoys complete autonomy from the rest of the hotel. It is the largest permanent platform for Palestinian artists to showcase their work in Palestine. Local curators are invited to organise the regularly changing roster of exhibitions. Many of the most notable Palestinian artist work is on display here, including Suliman Mansour and Nail Anani. An adjoining space is dedicated to temporary shows by emerging artists. The gallery sells original work, prints and postcards.
