The artist Mustafa Al-Hallaj was born in Jaffa in 1938 and died in the year 2002.
He holds a master’s degree in fine arts from the Luxor studio in Egypt which he received in the year 1964. He is an artist and sculptor and also practiced graphic arts, drawing, photography and printing.
Hallaj is considered one of the most important technical and aesthetic references for the next generation of Palestinian artists, presenting many exceptional engraved works and hand printings.
Al-Hallaj held many exhibitions in Cairo, Damascus, Baghdad, Rabat, Algeria, Tunis, Amman, Sharjah, Amsterdam, Moscow, and Iran. And in the year 2015, a painting of his was sold at an auction (Christie’s House) in Dubai, where the auction devoted a corner to Palestinian
Throughout his career, Al-Hallaj participated in many solo and group exhibitions in a number of Arab and foreign countries. He received many awards, the most significant of which are: First prize in carving (Love Festival) in Lattakia in 1999 and the golden prize at the (Al Mahras) festival in Tunisia in 1997.
His paintings overcome simple surrealist symbols. Moreover, his engravings embody the national concern and passion of the Palestinian people. Most of his works utilize black, white and gray colors to highlight the suffering of his people simply by expressing its components. Hence, he was able to form the so-called simple Palestinian surrealism.
One of his most important artistic projects is the mural (Improvisations of Life), through which he tried to embody his personal journey full of displacement and asylum and a summary of his artistic experience throughout his lifetime. This mural is considered the longest mural in the world, with a length of 114 meters and a width of 36 cm. unfortunately, he was unable to complete it due to his tragic death in 2002 while trying to save his paintings during a fire in his studio in Naji Al-Ali Hall in Damascus.

حاصل على درجة الماجستير في الفنون الجميلة من مرسم الأقصر في مصر عام 1964. هو فنان تشكيلي و نحات ، مارس فن الجرافيك و الرسم و التصوير و الطباعة .
اتقن الحلاج فن الرسم على الورق و القماش ، لكنه تفرد في الطباعة و الحفر . و هو اسلوب رسم مباشر باستخدام اداة يدوية مثل قلم رصاص لتنفيذ التصميم على الورق ثم نقله الى الحرير . و لذلك يعد الحلاج احد اهم المرجعيات التقنية و الجمالية للجيل الذي يليه من الفنانين الفلسطنيين بعد ما قدم اعمالا كثيرة في الحفر و الطباعة اليدوية .
اقام الحلاج العديد من المعارض في كل من القاهرة ، دمشق ، بغداد ، الرباط ، الجزائر ، تونس ، عمان ، الشارقة ، امستردام ، موسكو ، و ايران . و في العام 2015 تم بيع لوحة فنية له في مزاد ( دار كريستيز ) في دبي حيث خصص المزاد ركنا للفن الفلسطيني
تتغلب على لوحاته الرموز السريالية البسيطة . و طرحت نقوشه الهم الوطني و الشغف الفلسطيني . يتنقل بمعظم اعماله بين الاسود و الابيض و الرماديات ، لابراز معاناة شعبه ببساطة التعبير عن مكوناته . حيث استطاع تكوين ما يسمى السريالية الفلسطيينية البسيطة
في العام 2013 افتتح متحف جامعة بيرزيت و مؤسسة حوش الفن الفلسطيني معرضا للراحل مصطفى الحلاج لتسليط الضوء على اعماله . كونه من اوائل الفنانين الذين ساهمو في تشكيل معالم فن المقاومة . و شمل المعرض الذي جاء بعنوان ( مصطفى الحلاج ، ارتجالات في المعنى ) على 40 عملا فنيا .
من اهم مشاريعه الفنية هي جدارية ( ارتجالات الحياة ) التي حاول من خلالها تجسيد رحلته المليئة بالتهجير و اللجوء . و قد حاول جعلها ملخصا لخبرته الفنية كفنان و نحات . تعتبر هذه الجدارية اطول لوحة جدارية بالعالم حيث بلغ طولها 114 متر و عرضها 36 سم . و لكن للاسف لم يستطع اكمالها بسبب وفاته في عام 2002 في مشهد تراجيدي و هو يحاول انقاذ لوحاته اثناء نشوب حريق في مرسمه في صالة ناجي العلي في دمشق .
