Artist Raafat Asaad

The artist Raafat Asaad, born in Nablus in 1974.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and sketching from the national University of Al-Najah in Nablus.

He is a multidisciplinary artist, focusing on nature scenes from Palestine in his works.

He participated in many group exhibitions including the 11^th Benali Havana in Korea in 2012, the colors of life exhibition in Zawiya Gallery in Ramallah, Palestine in 2014, and the first International Conference in Alexandria for Mediterranean sea aquarium arts in 2015.

As for his individual exhibition (Detour), it is a highly creative graphic piece. The idea of the exhibition is to shed light on how bypass roads or the idea of detours emerged into Palestinian culture since 2002 due to the dismemberment of the West Bank with the placement of hundreds of military checkpoints and the Apartheid Wall.

Through 16 paintings, some of them ranking excellent on many levels, the artist expressed his emotional and realistic vision. He also merged nature scenes with the black and white pavement markings on the street. His choice of the white horizon instead of the blue sky horizon is symbolic for the distance between good and evil.

He held several personal exhibitions focusing on Palestinian nature in various forms in the last ten years. The first was (Story) and it was an abstract exhibition focused on nature. It was followed by an exhibition launched in the British capital of London called (Nature Maps) where he dealt with the idea of using maps to locate places. The third exhibition is (Marj bin Amer), through which he dealt with the landscape of caves. His exhibition titled (detour) redefined what came in the (Marj bin Amer) exhibition while highlighting the influence of mans relationship with nature.
