Artist Walid Abu Shakra

Artist Walid Abu Shakra was born in Umm al-Fahm in 1946 and died in 2019.

The artist Walid Abu Shakra is considered one of the most prominent pioneering Palestinian artists who started their creative work in the sixties and moved to England to study the art of engraving and printing on copper pieces, and he settled there.

He is a Palestinian painter belonging to the Sufis, and he was the first to study fine art in the country. He used charcoal and pencil in most of his paintings. His first works, which he completed in the sixties of the last century, depicted a silent nature and views of old buildings.

His artistic style is very precise, as his abstract paintings contain geometric shapes inspired by mosques and old markets in the cities of Palestine, ancient buildings, and Islamic architecture.

His drawings are distinguished by his attention to details, in each drawing there is an indication of the place that it documents. His paintings can be described as individual portraits of olive trees, cactus, and hand-built walls.

He participated in several individual and group exhibitions and has artworks in several museums, the most important of which are the Palestine Museum and the British Museum. Among his most important solo exhibitions was in 2011, where he held a solo exhibition entitled (Mantra Al-Batin) in his hometown of Umm al-Fahm, where he displayed his artworks during the sixties and seventies.
